About Us

Heart of Country

Melaythenner Teeackana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation was established in 2008 by passionate Aboriginal community members with a shared vision; to create a stronger, more inclusive and representative voice for their community.

From humble beginnings, and from a tent on a windy hill to the organisation it is today, MTWAC’s journey has been shaped by resilience, hard work, cultural strength and shared purpose.

The organisation acknowledges those who helped establish MTWAC, and those who continue to contribute to its growth, its members, Directors, Elders, community leaders and supporters. Their leadership, persistence and belief in the future of our people have helped ensure MTWAC’s voice is heard, its rights are recognised and its work continues to move forward.

Today, MTWAC remains grounded in Country, culture, knowledge and community. Its work supports cultural identity, advocacy, land ownership and management, community wellbeing, and sustainable opportunities for Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

As MTWAC looks to the future, it remains committed to protecting and celebrating Aboriginal heritage, strengthening community voice, and building a strong legacy for future generations.
